Several weeks ago, I tweaked my lower back in one of those weird ways. It was during a brief early morning jumping workout that I leaped into without any warmup whatsoever.

I was kicking ass and taking names, at first, then from out of nowhere, I felt a twinge. Next thing you know I'm walking crooked.

Matt Furey Welcome to the Official Site of Psycho-Cybernetics and Theatre of the Mind. This is where we do as the good doctor, Maxwell Maltz, did for so many years. We heal internal scars. Matt Furey, president of the Psycho-Cybernetics Foundation, a national and world title-holder in wrestling and martial arts, a bestselling fitness author as well as successful internet. Furey won the 1985 NCAA II national wrestling title (167-pounds) and the gold medal (90kg) at the 1997 Shuai-Chiao kung fu world championships. As well, Furey is president of The Psycho-Cybernetics.

When I looked in the mirror, I could see that everything was off. My hips, spine and shoulders resembled a see-saw.

This told me that NOW was a good time to visit a chiropractor, acupuncturist and/or deep tissue massage therapist.

After getting treated, I definitely experienced relief, but something was still off. That's when I decided it was time to sink to a whole new level.

I stood before a full-length mirror and began to observe my posture. I breathed deeply, stretched my spine in both directions and gradually opened up my joints. Then I made sure my energy, or the weight of my upper body was sinking down my spine and into my hips and pelvis.

Within a couple minutes the 'see-saw' look was beginning to dissipate. I could feel my nerves relaxing and my structure realigning.

I stood for five minutes then took a five-minute break. I repeated this three times. And when I finished, there was no more pain or tightness.

Incredible.

After sinking I immediately began doing the joint loosening exercises I teach in Combat Stretching. Ten minutes later, energy pulsated through my veins. I was perked up and ready to roll, feeling euphoria taking hold of me.

Sometimes when we feel tightness and pain, lengthening the body is the key. At other times, circling and rotating work. And then there are those moments where you heal yourself by sinking to a whole new level. Yes!

In Combat Stretching, you'll learn all of these ways.
